Pets in Cyprus
Purchasing property in Cyprus can mean a new home for the owners and their pets. If you are considering bringing your pet to Cyprus it may be necessary to place the animal in quarantine for up to 6 months. At the present time the following paperwork may be required to bring your pet from the UK to Cyprus:
• An Import Permit which is valid for three months from date of issue. This can be obtained from the Director of Veterinary Services, Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, 1417-Nicosia, Cyprus.

• An Official Export Health Certificate which must be applied for from DEFRA. This will be sent to your nominated LVI (DEFRA recognised Local Veterinary Inspector). The vet must examine and treat your pets within three days of the flight and stamp the certificate.
Dogs and cats must be treated for both internal and external parasites as per the Export Health Certificate. Rabies vaccination is optional but if done this should be at least 30 days before the flight and an International vaccination certificate showing this must be attached to the Health Certificate.

VETERINARY CONDITIONS RELATING TO THE IMPORTATION OF DOGS AND CATS INTO CYPRUS
The dogs/ cats cannot be brought into Cyprus unless and until there is delivered to a Veterinary officer at the port/airport of Import an Animal Health Certificate issued by a duly authorized Veterinary Officer of the Government of the exporting country attesting that the animals:
1. Were clinically examined not more than 72 hours prior to exportation and found to be in good health and free from signs of rabies and any other infectious or contagious disease.
2. Were kept since birth or for the six months prior to shipment, in the exporting country where no case of Rabies was officially reported during the past two years. Or were kept for the six months prior to shipment in premises where no case of Rabies was officially reported during that period.
3. Either have not been vaccinated against Rabies. Vaccination certificates for Rabies and any other vaccinations that the animal has been given should be attached.
